Our Story

Scott and I met during our first week of college.  We began dating shortly thereafter.  I had lofty dreams of being a professional musician, and Scott was passionate about scientific research, but we soon found the that Lord's ultimate plan for us was to be in the ministry together.  We married on August 9th, 2003, two weeks before our senior year of college began.  Over the next several months, we worked five jobs between us and finished college together.  Our ministry as a married couple began at a little country church where Scott was the youth pastor and I was the children's ministry director.  We truly enjoyed this season, but God had other things in store.  After a year at our church in the country, God called us to a different church where I served as children's ministry director.  At this same time, the Lord was calling Scott to serve with Crossings Ministries at Jonathan Creek in western Kentucky.  After nine years, Crossings was still home.  It has grown rapidly and Scott most recently served at the Crossings Central Office as the Director of Operations.  God is so good.  After many years at Crossings, the Lord called our family to missionary work in Haiti.  It was a tough decision to leave our Crossings family, but in August 2012, we moved to the island nation to work with Baptist Haiti Mission.  We are blessed to be able to serve here among the Haitian people and look forward to the future!  A few other things have happened over the years as well. . .

We decided to start a family about 1 and half years into our marriage.  We became pregnant rather quickly, but miscarried at the heartbreaking late stage of 11 weeks.  This was a huge blow.  We grieved for a long time and I struggled with some serious anxiety and depression.  Then, we tried again a few months later and miscarried again at 5 weeks.  Feeling incredibly broken, we sought God's face more than ever before and He grew us in some amazing ways.  We decided to stop trying to start a family and throw ourselves into the work of the ministry.  We found out we were pregnant 2 months later.  In a panic, we changed doctors and found one that specialized in high-risk pregnancies.  With God's sovereign hand and great medical care, we brought Kilee into the world on December 23rd, 2006.  She is a miracle and a blessing!  Our little girl is now 6 years old!

Then, a couple of years later we decided it was time to expand our family.  Adoption was most definitely on Scott's heart and God was leading him to talk to me about possibly adopting a child.  I resisted at first, but after going to several adoption classes at church with Scott, the Lord revealed to us that adoption was the next step.  Doors started to open to domestic adoption.  We knew an infant would be the best option for us at the time since Kilee was only 2 years old.  We applied with an agency and God provided all of the money to complete the adoption through generous anonymous donations, the help of family and friends, adoption grants and the adoption tax credit.  We waited and waited, and after a disrupted referral and a couple more months, we received the call on September 9th, 2009 to come to the hospital to meet our son, Josiah!  Adoption truly is a miracle and our son is such a gift from God.
